Renée Chernus is a Marin County-based family law attorney. She was certified by the California State Bar as a family law specialist in 1999. Renée handles a variety of divorce and child custody cases, with a special focus on complex asset division.

A long-time practice in Marin

Having spent her entire law career in Marin County, Renée is well-established in the community and nearly all of her clients come from referrals. She provides prompt and efficient resolution of her cases (90% completed without extended litigation), in part by emphasizing the separation of emotional and financial issues.

Renée has been recognized annually on the Northern California Super Lawyers list published by Thomson Reuters and San Francisco magazine. She has also been awarded an AV Preeminent® Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest possible distinction for legal ability and ethical standards.

In 2005, Renée received a fellowship in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. The organization has recognized 1,600 matrimonial fellows across the US for their experience, leadership and integrity. She is also featured on the Ten Leaders website, a directory of peer-recommended professionals.

Education and experience

A New Jersey native, Renée graduated from Syracuse University, then earned her law degree at New York Law School in 1979. She spent the first 15 years of her career at a Marin law firm, and opened her San Rafael solo practice in the mid-90s.

Renée has taught many continuing education family law classes to her colleagues and peers.

Outside interests

Renée enjoys travel, art and golf, but would rather spend time with her young grandson.
